party life

office partyYou may be familiar with the TV series “The Office”, it’s a comedy but it’s very near the knuckle when it comes to real life situations at work.

The office party is either welcome or dreaded depending upon your outlook to socialising with colleagues at work. Some employees will never go; others will always go and make themselves look complete idiots – hardly daring to turn up for work the next day. I say this from personal experience – and before you ask, No, I wasn’t the idiot – actually I can’t remember!!

As in all situations there are guidelines. Most of us never follow them or even know they exist. Here are a few:-

* Although it is a social event, you are being watched not only by your colleagues but by ‘The Management’. So enjoy yourself – but don’t act like you’re on a stag night (see Section 2).

* Even if you don’t like these occasions and are loathe turning up, it may help your career prospects if you were to put in an appearance. Just showing your face to ‘The Management’ may give the impression that you’ve decided to go after all and that could be a plus point in your favour.

* Keep your hands to yourself and don’t flirt with the opposite sex (unless you’ve already been given the go-ahead). This not only embarrasses you but also everyone else who is still sober enough to notice. At least wait until the free-bar is about to run dry!!
